How do you come up with names for places/characters?
My story takes place far far in the future, but everything is kind of like the past. Think: kings, queens, plagues, corsets, fancy dresses, hanging, that type of thing. Anyway, I always have a hard time coming up with names for things, people, and places. Especially when i don't want them to be... modern type names. Anyway, how do you create names?
Take common "today" names and alter them in a futuresque way:
From Mark Foley we get Markus Foolian
From Carol Burnett we get Keril Burneze
From John Adams we get Jhoon Adaaz
Columbia becomes Kuulombia
Fairfax becomes Faarfaxx
Germany becomes Goormonia
