A glass magnifying -lens is submerged in water to view an underwater object.?
A glass magnifying -lens is submerged in water to view an underwater object. Compared to viewing object with the magnifying lens out of water, this will:
A. increase magnification
B. decrease magnification
C. not change magnification
Answer is B, but I don't know if I used the right logic: using lens' maker's eqn 1/f = (n1/n2 -1) (1/r1 -1/r2), we know 1/f is proportional to n1/n2 (Nair/Nwater). Nwater> Nair so f has a higher value. Since P= 1/f, that means P is lower, meaning lower magnification. Can you let me know if this is the right logic? Otherwise, is there another way to solve this? Thank you in advanced?

since the focus increases, the length between the object and lens decreases
so if you keep it at the same distance the magnification compared to that on air is lesser.
