What are some time eras that are very uncommon in writing?
Some common time eras that are found in novels and literature are: Medieval Times, Renaissance, Victorian, ect. What are some uncommon ones?
It seems to me, the further back you go, the less common. Part of the reason for this may be that it's harder to research those eras.
A couple exceptions: There were some terrific novels written in the 50's-70's set in ancient Greece by a woman named Mary Renault... but I wonder if such novels would fly in today's market considering that education in classic languages and literature isn't what it was. And people write about Dynastic Egypt a lot.
Though Regency settings and Victorian settings are common, Edwardian settings are less so. There are far more WWII novels than WWI novels.
Also, it seems to me that not many writers working in English set their novels in other countries than the ones you'd expect. Why not have an Englishman in 1820 doing something in Peru or Mongolia for part of the novel? How about a Canadian in China in 1932?

The Renaissance: Studies in Art and Poetry $10.67 Walter Pater (1839-1894) attained a B.A. degree in Classics from Queen's College, Oxford, followed soon after by a M.A. degree from Brasenose College, Oxford, where he was made a Fellow in 1865.
